Project Visitor Quick Start Guide
The world of Project Visitor is large and involved. As such, it can be intimidating to the new player and you may find yourself lost and unsure what to do next. Here are some tips to get you started so you can find your way around this vast and hostile world.
- Follow the tutorial - And read the Help Pages. Most of the answers you seek can be found in these Help Pages.
- Build your base - After you Stake Claim to your camp, take your time to build a small base. You are going to need to spend lots of time mining Transium, and every thing you build uses Transium, so don't build that much. As a trainee, no one can attack you, so only build your main buildings. You wont need Rovers and turrets to defend you camp, so building them will only waste resources at this time. Store all your Jitters in your buildings. Don't leave Jitters or built objects on the floor as they will decay and vanish after a couple of days (this does not apply to buildings and Rovers).
- Build an ERT - An ERT is a Healing Rover. You should always keep an ERT handy. As a level 1 trainee, an ERT is the only rover you can bring with you on a Teleport. ERTs cannot hold weapons. They can be equipped with armor, but if you do, it will exceed your teleport limit as Level 1 (more on this later).
- Teleport Somewhere - Check the World View and choose a place to Teleport. When you click on a camp, you can find info about that camp and its owner on the right. If you enter an enemy camp, be prepared that he may kill you. Keep this in mind when you go there, so don't bring anything you want to lose. When you die in Project Visitor, you will drop everything you are carrying, so remember to leave all your valuables at your Home Camp. To return home to your camp, go to the perimeter of the camp you are in, and hit the Backspace key. You really don't want to bring that big shiny new gun on your first teleport because you may lose it.
- Build some basic equipment - After you get familiar with the controls, get rid of that wimpy IT320 pistol (if you haven't lost it already). It's pretty much worthless. Build yourself a new gun, and some armor. Keep in mind your firm point limitations (see weapons for more info on Firm Points). Remember there a lot of experienced players out there, most of them have bigger guns than you, and many of them are not friendly, so don't be afraid to run.
- Buy Jitter Packs - You have 100,000 V$ when you start, so you can buy 4 Jitter Packs at the Corporate Market. Packs are random, but each pack always contains one rare item.
- Join an MDN - It cannot be stressed enough how important this is. Getting into an MDN will get you involved in the Project Visitor Community, as well as help protect you. Also, many experienced MDN members will often give new players some valuable items to help them get started. To find an MDN, select your MDN channel in the bottom right of your display and click EDIT. You can search for MDNs using this tool. Look for MDNs that are both Online and have Vacancies. Use the Corp Chat command %cc{msg} and send a message to the corporation. You can also try teleporting to friendly camps and ask around. Also, try going to the UN at region #1000005. There are always lots of people trading in there and you will likely find someone who is willing to help you. You can also find MDNs to join in the chat rooms or Posting Boards at
http://www.PVForums.com. Don't worry about getting into a good one, just get into one, or start your own and recruit others to join.
- Check the Corporate Net - The Corporate Net is a Global system that monitors the active areas on the planet. Whenever there is a large raid or defense, it will show up here. This is a good way to find friends by helping someone in a jam. Jumping into a big fire-fight is also a good way to scoop up items other have lost - items you would otherwise never come by.
- Camp 7, The Arena - At camp #7, there is an arena. A UN Tech owns this camp, and the buildings cannot be destroyed, but you can duel here with other players. At The Arena, you should not bring Rovers or shoot at anyone outside The Arena Structure itself (unless the UN Tech is organizing a specific event). However, These are Gentleman's Rules, and are not enforced, so be on your toes.
- Advancing to Level 2 - You will need 200,000 V$ to advance to level 2. So you will have to stop buying Jitter Packs and save your money. This process will go much faster if you don't have a lot of building or Rovers in your Base. Get a surplus of V$ before you advance. Before you hit that Advance Button, get your defenses up. Build your Turrets and Rovers (don't forget to give the Rovers guns and armor). It is also a good idea to be sure you have MDN members online while you do this (you did join and MDN didn't you?). Advancing in levels gives you a higher TU exchange rate and lets you bring more bulk on a teleport, but it also means that people can attack you. The higher level you are, the more bulk an enemy can bring into your base.
- Go to Visitor Camps - Visitor camps have an icon of the planet. These camps are not owned by anyone. Some of these are camps that were destoyed and never conquered. Others are abandoned bases. Most Visitor camps are empty. Some have abandoned buildings or Jitters for the taking. Even though these camps are not owned by anyone, any turrets that are there will default to sentry mode, and will fire at anyone - so be careful. However, since they are not owned by anyone, you won't risk making enemies.
- Conquering New Camps - When you are ready to conquer a new camp (see Camp Conquering), make sure you have set aside some time to build up its defenses. Unlike your Home Camp, your secondary camps will remain open when you are offline, and can be attacked, so they need to be well defended. Find an empty Visitor Camp, and bring with you a Nerve Center, a Teleport Matrix, 5 Transium Wells, Transium and some Turrets and/or Rovers for defense. It is also a good idea to have MDN members ready to defend you while you build your new camp. After you conquer your new land, be sure to EDIT our Camp Profile and turn on the MDN alert. This will be your first TU camp. You do not need to build all the basic structures in a TU camp like Armor Factories or Research Centers. Those structures just burn TU, and you can build your needed items at your Home Base and bring them here. You need this camp to be lean and efficient, since its main purpose is to produce Transium for you. Don't be too disappointed if it is gone the next time you log in. It will take experience to learn how to set up a camp that can defend itself.
- When all else fails, Log Out - Sometime, due to internet weather or traffic, you game may become lagged, or strange things may happen. If your client gets out of sync with the server, you may have trouble shooting, jumping, chatting, accessing your items, or picking up things. If you think things are acting strange, and they aren't getting better, sometimes the best thing to do is simply log off and log back in. Even better, log out, and wait a few minutes, and then come back in. This will often fix a majority of quirks associated with internet traffic.
Remember Project Visitor is an evolving and ever changing universe. The World, People and Rules will change over time and new features and objects show up every so often. Be sure to check
